Texas Woman Alleges Unanswered 911 Calls Led to Her Paralysis.

Last January, Roxanna Mayo was terrified as her drunk boyfriend allegedly threatened to hurt her and her children. Mayo called police multiple times, but they did not respond until an hour later when a neighbor called about the noise. Unfortunately, Mayo’s boyfriend’s actions went beyond threats. In fact, he shot her in the back, resulting in her being paralyzed below the chest except for limited mobility in her left arm.

Mayo is now suing the Dallas police department for failing to quickly respond to her 911 calls, which she alleged directly led to her being shot and her paralysis. In an interview with nbcdfw.com, Mayo said: “If they’d have come out the first five times we called I wouldn’t be paralyzed.” Mayo said in an other interview. “And my whole family wouldn’t be destroyed and none of this would have happened.”

She is seeking $1 million in damages, primarily for her pain and suffering but also for her lost wages. Mayo says she ran her own salon and used to earn $100,000 a year, but now she does not know how she will provide for herself or her four children. If she can prove she was injured because of someone’s negligence in a civil lawsuit, lost wages are often considered as a part of damages awarded to the injured party.
