Oklahoma Caretaker Charged with Elder Abuse.

A Yukon, Oklahoma caretaker is facing criminal charges of alleged abuse from an elderly nursing home resident in Oklahoma.

The former certified nurse aide at the Ranchwood Nursing Center in Yukon, Joe Allen Gordon, 58, is charged in the local county district court with one count of criminal abuse by a caretaker.

Gordon allegedly used a bed sheet to tie an 89 year-old nursing home resident to her chair. Such restraints are prohibited by Oklahoma state law and nursing home policy. Physical restraints may only be implemented under a doctor’s orders and generally only with written consent from the patient.

If convicted, Gordon could face up to 10 years in jail and/or a fine of up to $10,000. Under Oklahoma’s Elderly and Incapacitated Victim’s Protection Program, passed by the Oklahoma State legislature in 1999, someone convicted of caretaker abuse faces a mandatory sentence of 30 days in jail.
