Massachusetts Climate Change Plan Is Falling Short Of Goal.

According to the first comprehensive review of Massachusetts’ climate change plan that went into effect four years ago, the state is behind in its efforts to lessen emissions of gases that trap heat in the atmosphere.

The plan sought to cut Massachusetts greenhouse gas emissions to 25 percent below 1990 levels by the year 2020, and to cut emissions 80 percent by 2050. According to the report, the major lag involves the state’s transportation network, which makes up approximately 36 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in Massachusetts. The report also included a number of delays and potential issues with the state’s renewable energy programs. Some state administration officials dispute the report’s findings, and argue that there are going to be some shortcomings only because the initiative was the most aggressive greenhouse reduction plan in the country.
