Commemorative Events Held In Honor Of Titanic’s Sinking.

A century after the sinking of the Titanic, there are a number of events that have been held around the world in an effort to commemorate the tragedy.

The Titanic is believed to be a particularly enduring symbol of tragedy because of a number of factors, including the fact that its passengers ranged from penniless emigrants to millionaires, and that it was the world’s largest and most luxurious ship in existence at the time of the sinking. One of the commemorative events included a cruise ship that is taking history buffs along the ship’s route. The ship left Southampton, England on April 8th, and passengers have enjoyed lectures on the ship’s history. Many have even dressed in period costume for dinner and dances onboard the ship.

Nearly 1,500 people were killed when the ship sank on April 14, 1912. There were approximately 2,208 passengers onboard the ship at the time of the sinking.
