Cheryl McCollin, Andre’s mother, brought the lawsuit on behalf of her son, who had attended the school for disabled children in 2002 because he is autistic.
The trial included a video of Andre receiving shock treatments 31 times over the course of several hours while he yelled at school officials to stop. School officials would not admit that they were guilty of misconduct, and instead claimed that shock treatments can be beneficial for certain students.
