Baby Saved from Fiery Crash That Killed 2 in Indiana.

Passing motorists saved a baby from a fiery car crash that killed two other motorists on an Indiana highway. A swerving car crossed the center line on US 231 and struck an on-coming car head-on on Monday.

The car responsible for the auto crash caught fire. Tippecanoe County Sherriff’s Department Deputy Randy Martin broke through the burning car’s rear window and pulled out the 7 month-old child unharmed. The driver of the car that caused the auto crash perished at the scene of the car accident and was not immediately identified by authorities. The other driver, 28 year-old Jennifer York of Lafayette, Indiana, died at a nearby Indianapolis hospital from extensive burn injuries.

Florida Man Sues for Medical Malpractice After Having Penis Amputated.

Enrique Milla has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit in Florida against Dr. Laurentiu Boeru, the anesthesiologist involved in the penile implant surgery that resulted in the amputation of Milla’s penis.

Milla claims that he went to the doctors for elective penile implant surgery to correct his erectile dysfunction. After the procedure was complete, however, Milla contracted gangrene in his penis, forcing doctors to amputate it in order to save his life.

Milla alleges that Boeru was negligent in failing to postpone the surgery and clearing him for the procedure, given Milla’s diabetes and high blood pressure. Legal experts agree that if it is determined that Boeru, in his capacity as the anesthesiologist, had a medical duty to determine the patient’s fitness for surgery, he could be found liable for personal injury damages.

Milla already settled a 2009 lawsuit against the urologist who performed the surgery that led to his amputated penis.

The shortage of women in the agency may be attributed to the travel demands, the need to be on-call around the clock, and the strain on women, who must frequently balance their families and careers.  Despite aggressive recruitment of women, their representation remains low.

Past incidents have not helped to encourage more women to join the agency.  Workers have been found emailing racially and sexually inappropriate jokes. Off-duty agents were involved in a violent alcohol-related bar brawl in 2002, and there have been previous reports of heavy drinking, pornography and security lapses within the agency.  It is believed that an increase of women in the agency might cause some progress and result in more accountability.
