{"id":1107,"date":"2015-03-02T17:44:50","date_gmt":"2015-03-02T17:44:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/boston-personalinjury-lawyer.com\/blog\/?p=1107"},"modified":"2015-03-02T17:44:50","modified_gmt":"2015-03-02T17:44:50","slug":"houston-tx-jury-awards-explosion-accident-victims-family-29-million-in-damages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/boston-personalinjury-lawyer.com\/blog\/houston-tx-jury-awards-explosion-accident-victims-family-29-million-in-damages\/","title":{"rendered":"Houston, TX Jury Awards Explosion Accident Victim\u2019s Family $29 Million in Damages."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cBlack gold\u201d is the nickname given to deposits of oil that are often found deep within the earth.\u00a0 Throughout much of the 20<sup>th<\/sup> Century, Americans, particularly in the western parts of the nation, were fixated on mining as much oil as they possibly could.\u00a0 <strong>Due to a growing demand for fossil fuels, the value of petroleum oil increased steadily as years passed.\u00a0<\/strong> Leaders in the oil industry, who were once struggling to make a living, eventually became tycoons.<\/p>\n<p>Since the glory days of oil drilling, oil fields have become fewer and farther in between.\u00a0 Alternatives to oil and natural gas have had a detrimental effect on the industry, yet there is still a desperate need that people will pay handsomely for.\u00a0 Just look at your local gas pump, and you\u2019ll see the truth of that.\u00a0 As an employee in the business, however, there are many risks that are taken on a daily basis.\u00a0 <strong>Accidents can occur that maim or kill workers who are caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lJWeuq4g3Gc\" width=\"400\" height=\"280\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Sadly, 38-year-old Garland Kelley was one of these unlucky few.\u00a0 According to the Houston Press, Mr. Kelley was a father of two who worked at the Professional Directional Enterprises oilfield in Conroe, Texas.\u00a0 On July 30, 2011, he was working.\u00a0 S<strong>uddenly, a lithium thionyl chloride battery exploded near him and killed him.\u00a0 The burns from the explosion were too severe for him to overcome and he died before he reached a nearby hospital.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the wake of their tragic loss, the Kelley family filed an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lJWeuq4g3Gc\">explosion accident lawsuit<\/a> against the owners of the oilfield.<strong>\u00a0 The family alleged in their complaint that the battery had been improperly heated to extend its life for use in an oilfield downhole-drilling tool and was known by the company to be defective.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0 Professional Directional Enterprises responded to the complaint by placing the blame on Garland Kelley himself.\u00a0 They argued that he had broken protocol and company policy prior to the explosion at the oilfield. \u00a0The Kelley family was represented\u00a0 in the case by Attorney Tony Buzbee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>After a day of deliberation, a Houston jury awarded Mrs. Kelley and her children with $29 million in <a href=\"https:\/\/gilhoylaw.com\/boston-massachusetts-wrongful-death.php\">wrongful death damages<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cBlack gold\u201d is the nickname given to deposits of oil that are often found deep within the earth.\u00a0 Throughout much of the 20th Century, Americans, particularly in the western parts of the nation, were fixated on mining as much oil &hellip;
