Synthos is a Polish manufacturing firm which employs 2700 people worldwide and located in the Czech Republic. The company produces and sells chemical raw materials, emulsion rubbers, and expanded polystyrene across the globe. Their facilities in the towns of Kralupy and Vltavou, north of Prague, had an explosion wherein officials have confirmed that six people died and at least four were hurt. Many believe this is the worst industrial accident in the country for half a century.
The explosion took place at an industrial site at around 10 a.m. A spokesman for Unipetrol, which operates a Synthos chemical facility at the chemical plant, said several people had suffered what could only be described as devastating injuries when a tanker exploded. Rescue crews and helicopters were at the scene and the area has also been sealed off by police.
