Massachusetts Faulted On Child Abuse Reporting.

Massachusetts was given a letter grade of “C” for its reporting of deaths and near-deaths of children as a result of abuse or neglect.  A new nationwide survey says that Massachusetts could do a better job of reporting abuse in order to help prevent future deaths or serious, catastrophic injuries.   This new report is entitled “State Secrecy and Child Deaths in the US,” and will be released at a congressional briefing.

In 2008, Massachusetts created an Office of the Child Advocate which reviews deaths and near-deaths of children receiving state services.  The Massachusetts Department of Children and Families is emphasizing that this new report does not review state child welfare systems but assesses laws relating to the release of information.
