Authorities report that Dr. Kristin Howard, a Newton-Wellesley, MA Hospital Emergency Room doctor, was driving under the influence of drugs when she caused a car crash on November 9.
The auto accident sent one man to the emergency room. Paul McDonald, the man Howard struck with her car, suffered two cracked ribs and a hematoma on his leg from the motor vehicle crash.
Howard had previously been given the Doctor of the Year award at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital in 2009.
Howard originally told police that she was on her way to the hospital at the time of the auto crash, but subsequently changed her story to say that she was driving home. After the motor vehicle crash, police found her in possession of multiple prescription drugs, which she allegedly prescribed to herself.
Dr. Howard has plead not guilty to all the charges against her, including operating a motor vehicle under the influence of narcotics. She has been relieved of her position at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital and will return to court on January 7.
